Trace Regional Hospital offers a Swing Bed program for patients who no longer need acute hospital care but are not yet able to return home.

What is Swing Bed?

Swing Bed refers to an acute care hospital bed that can be swung from acute care to long-term care and back again to meet patients’ needs.

What services do TRH Swing Bed offer?

We have highly trained specialty services in our swing bed program including the following:

  • Physical Therapy
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Speech Therapy
  • Respiratory Therapy
  • Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation
  • What conditions qualify for Swing Bed?

Conditions that qualify for swing bed include, but are not limited to physical therapy, IV hydration, wound care, infections requiring IV antibiotics, daily respiratory therapy requiring inhalation medications, and post-surgical care. The patient should have reasonable restorative or rehabilitative potential. The patient must have received three calendar days of acute care as a hospital inpatient prior to admission to the Swing Bed Unit.

What sets TRH Swing Bed apart from other Swing Bed programs?

We offer a locked-down unit, which allows specialized care for patients who have Alzheimer’s and Dementia.

Social services are available and are utilized to help the patient and family obtain assisted living or nursing home care if returning to their community is not a possibility.

What insurance companies does TRH Swing Bed accept?

We accept Medicare and most other insurances. We have a talented Utilization Review Coordinator who will work with your insurance company. During the referral process, we will do the footwork for pre-certification if needed. We will obtain approval prior to admission.
